Divabetic Channels A-MAY-zing Moms to Makeover Your Diabetes

(New York, NY – April 30, 2012) – Divabetic, a U.S.-based diabetes outreach nonprofit organization, looks back, springs forward and gets a little personal to put a motherly spin on diabetes prevention and management. In observance of Mother’s Day 2012 and with inspiration from three celebrity divas: the character Rose Hovick, a determined stage mother in the 1962 film classic Gypsy, new mother Beyonce Knowles, recently selected as People Magazine’s 2012 World’s Most Beautiful Woman, and Divabetic’s own podcast commentator Mama Rose Marie, celebrating 50 years of motherhood, Divabetic proclaims May as Mother ur Diabetes Month to encourage those living with, at risk of and affected by diabetes to take good care of their health.

“Take charge with a mother’s confidence, strength, persistence, protectiveness and tender loving care to put your health on top,” states Max “Mr. Divabetic” Szadek, founder and executive director of Divabetic. Szadek, who also happens to be the son of Mama Rose Marie, continues, “We also remind everyone that May is National Stroke Awareness Month and the risk of stroke is two to four times higher among people with diabetes.

Mother ur Diabetes Month gets underway on Mr. Divabetic’s YouTube Channel with new episodes of Mother Your Diabetes featuring Mama Rose Marie, Classic Diabetes Myth Busters, Carb Kitty and the world premiere of Diabetes Numerology Screen Gems 12: Gypsy. This Divabetic adaptation of the Rosalind Russell/Natalie Wood classic features a tricky plot twist of a blood sugar low. Diabetes Numerology presents entertaining scenarios and trivia to encourage those living with diabetes to develop the confidence to manage a diversity of health care situations.

New program episodes on Diva TalkRadio, Divabetic’s online podcast channel, include an interview with Washington, DC author and motivational fitness speaker Renee Wiggins, which begins May 1 and continues throughout the month. Diabetes Roundtable Inspired by Beyonce airs Tuesday May 8 at 6:00 p.m. and features a whirlwind of wellness, laughs and diabetes education, all in 30 minutes. Special segments include a hot topic discussion on the relationship between breast-feeding and type 2 diabetes in children with certified diabetes educators Judi Wilcox, RD, CDE of Hollywood, FL, Connie Frazier, RD, LDN, CDE, of Pittsburgh, PA and Patricia Addie Gentle, RN, BSN, CDE, of Atlanta, GA; a Food Aisle Face-off with a pink slime twist between hamburgers and hot dogs, a menu review of healthy dining choices at Panera Bread, an interview with real diva Laura Anne W. of Queens, NY, a Mother Your Diabetes commentary with Mama Rose Marie and a Wack or Wow fitness routine review with Jessica Issler, RD, CDE, of Norfolk, VA.
